Biographical history

William James Kent was an Anglican lay reader and teacher and was principal of St. Peter's Mission Indian Residential School at Grouard, Alberta from about 1924 possibly until the school closed in 1932. Prior to this he taught at a mission in Saskatchewan, and after, in Athabasca. He died in Alix, Alberta about 1951 or 1952 and was buried in Edmonton.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of an album compiled by William James Kent. The album contains photographs of the school, students and activities primarily at St. Peter's Mission Indian Residential School at Grouard. Photos of several other Anglican schools in the Northwest Territories and Saskatchewan as well as clippings and memorabilia are also included. The students at the school in Grouard were Cree from the Sucker Reserve. Some of the items in the album are written in Cree.
