Biographical history
Sybil Andrews, 1898-1992, was born in Bury St. Edmunds, England. She began studies at Heatherley's School of Fine Art in London in 1922, and later studied printmaking under Claude Flight at the Grosvenor School of Fine Art. She was accomplished in several artistic media, but was most noted for her linocuts. In 1943 she married Walter Morgan, 1894-1986, a boatbuilder and woodworker. In 1947 they emigrated to Campbell River, British Columbia. Sybil taught art classes in Campbell River, and wrote a book, Artist's Kitchen. She also taught recorder lessons. The catalogue of her 1982 exhibit at the Glenbow Museum was published as Sybil Andrews, Colour Linocuts. The Glenbow also published a video production in 1992, Sybil Andrews and the Art of the Linocut. Sybil Andrews died in Victoria, British Columbia.

The fonds consists of diaries; certificates and membership cards; files related to art galleries which featured her work; correspondence with friends and students; records pertaining to Cyril E. Power (friend and mentor); lists of her art works; art suppliers' files; student lists for painting and recorder classes; drafts of Artist's Kitchen; and photographs of her family, homes, and studios in England; the voyage to Canada; and her friends, students and life in Campbell River.

A series of recorded interviews with Sybil Andrews discussing her work is in the Alberta Artists Oral History Project at Glenbow (RCT 786-(39-51)). Many of her linocuts, print blocks, drawings, paintings and sketchbooks are in the Glenbow's Arrt collections.
