Biographical history

Robert Henry Robertson, 1857-1940, was born near Woodbridge, Ontario where he married Emma Jane Snell, ?-1933. They came to Alberta in 1890, first to Calgary, then to High River in 1897. Robert worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) as station agent and his wife ran a dining hall in the station. In 1904 the Robertsons established a farm east of High River and built a turreted house which became a local landmark. In 1904 the family moved to an orchard in Oregon with their three youngest children, while their older children remained in Alberta. Among their children were William Henry, 1884-1961, Bert, Lillian (Niven), 1888-1983, Emma (Bartley), Fred, Eva May (Doxee), 1896- , Jessie Jane (Hamlin), 1898- , and Charlie Andrew, 1903- .

The fonds consists of a diary kept over the years by R.H. Robertson, in which he described his life and activities.
