Biographical history

Lillian Hyde, 1884-1969, was born at Bealton, Ontario, the daughter of Elgin and Ella Hyde. She married Fred Percy Turner, 1879-1941, and they had three children, Elton Maxwell, Norma Katherine (Minielly) and Robert Francis. They homesteaded at Herschel, Saskatchewan in 1906, and then opened a general store in Kirriemuir, Alberta ca. 1914. The family returned to Ontario ca. 1918 where Percy worked for the Toronto Asphalt Roofing Company.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of Lillian's letters to her mother and grandparents regarding homesteading life in Saskatchewan and Alberta, and photographs of the Turner's homestead and general store. Includes transcripts of the 1906-1907 letters.
