Biographical history

John Stokoe, 1882-1928, was born in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England and came to Wood Bay, Manitoba in 1903 to farm. He moved to Altario, Alberta in 1909. He married Maisie Masson, 1882-1957, of Pilot Mound, Manitoba in 1913. They had seven children, James Masson, 1914-1957, Jean Scott (Wittmack), 1916- , Donald Newton, 1917- , Mary Elizabeth, 1919-1998, Charles Tynne, 1921- , Robert Gordon, 1924- , and Dorothy Anne (Chiswell), 1925- .

The fonds consists of letters to his parents regarding his farming experiences in both Manitoba and Alberta; Christmas cards; a farm work diary; grain elevator receipts; and a portrait of the family.
