Biographical history

John Ludvik Edlund, 1874-1957, was born in Norway of Swedish parents, and moved to Claresholm, Alberta in 1904. He worked as a photographer and theatre manager before retiring in 1929 to devote himself to inventing. His inventions included anti-glare headlights, a portable lawn table, airplane cushions incorporating signalling material for plane crashes, a combination travelling bag and life-preserver suit, a sparrow trap, a no-drip faucet, and a fly screen for windows. He and his wife, Karen, had six children, Clara, Mrs. Inar Jensen, Mrs. Arthur Washburn, Carl, John and Edmar.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of patents and newspaper clippings (1916-1935) for several of Edlund's inventions, and photographs (1905-1918) of Claresholm buildings and events, First World War peace celebrations, and the life-preserving valise which he invented.
