History
William Jackson, 1855-1942, was born in Gleasson, England, and worked in a mine at nine years of age and a foundry at thirteen. When he was fifteen his mother died and he left home to work as a farm labourer. In 1872 he emigrated to the USA with his sister and brother-in-law, and for the next ten years he worked in foundries in Cleveland, Ohio and Hamilton, Ontario. In 1882 he moved to Fish Creek, Alberta and became a Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) well-digger. The next year he moved to Maple Creek, Saskatchewan where he kept cattle and worked in dam construction. He homesteaded at Priddis, Alberta in 1885, and in 1894 married Mary Le Penitiere, ?-1949. They had nine children, Mary, Florence (Krebs), Isabella (Gormand), 1904-?, Frances (Rich), William, Joseph, George, John and Mrs. James Flood. In 1937 William and Mary moved to Calgary.
