Biographical history
In 1984, the Northern Alberta Curling Association was successful in their bid to host the 1987 men's Canadian Curling Championship, officially known as the Labatt Brier. The Edmonton 1987 Brier Limited (Ltd.) was incorporated as a non-profit private association under the Companies Act on July 30, 1985. The objectives of the Edmonton 1987 Brier Ltd. were to promote, stage, manage and operate the Canadian Curling Championship for 1987, as well as other social and cultural events in conjunction with the Championship, and promote amateur curling in Canada. The 1987 Labatt Brier was held March 8-15 at Northlands Agricom in Edmonton, Alberta. Norm Thomson was the general chairman. Ultimate responsibility for the organization of the Canadian Curling Championship is held by the Canadian Curling Association (C.C.A.); however, it delegates part of the responsibility to the Host Committee, in this case, Edmonton 1987 Brier Ltd., which organized the Championship under general directions of C.C.A. and the Labatt Brewing Company.
