Administrative history

After the University gained autonomy, administration of such support services as the Bookstore, Duplicating Services, Stenographic Services Pool, Postal Services, Central Stores, Shipping and Receiving and Food Services were the responsiblity of the Controller who reported to the Vice-President (Business). The Assistant to the President, Student Affairs oversaw student residences. By 1969 many of the above areas of responsiblity were transferred to the new position of Supervisor, Auxiliary Services who reported to VP(Business): these included overall supervision of student residences, the Dining Centre, Bookstore, Offset Printing (formerly Duplicating Services) and Campus Mail (formerly Postal Services), as well as policy formation, and operational methods and standards. By 1971 the Supervisor also prepared and supervised the operating and capital budgets, supervised staff, and determined space needs. In 1972 it appears that Auxiliary Services was transferred to the Vice-President (Services) area. The name change of Vice-President (Capital Resources) to VP(Services) perhaps reflected this addition of Auxiliary Services. At some point between 1972 and 1975 the Supervisor was renamed Director of Support Services. In September 1975 the Director resigned, the Support Services office was closed, and the functions of the director were assumed by the Vice-President (Services, Facilities and Physical Planning), formerly VP(Services).
